EMDR Therapy
Philadelphia and Beyond
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a structured therapy that helps people reduce how upsetting past traumas are in their day to day lives. EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, sometimes eye movements, tapping, or auditory stimulation, to change those negative thoughts that the brain has been holding onto.
It might sound strange to move your eyes back and forth or tap back and forth to create lasting change, but EMDR is backed up by tons of research and millions of people have been helped across the globe.
We will work together, at your pace, giving you all the resources you need
and then we’ll work with your body to create change in your life.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Some experiences in life are scary and horrifying.
Our brains and bodies do the best they can to protect us at the time we’re actively experiencing traumatic events.
Sometimes after the trauma is over, our brains still see threats everywhere and EMDR therapy helps to work with the amazingly adaptive brain to learn to see the good in the world and not only the things that could hurt us.
We will develop resources so that you can take control of your thoughts
Understand your emotions
And not let the past traumas of your life dictate how you live in the present.
We will work with
your body to heal
Although its good to appreciate that our brains were doing the best they could to protect us, you no longer need to hold onto those negative beliefs that developed from the traumas you endured.
EMDR therapy helps to move those negative thoughts and beliefs into the logical/ reasoning part of the brain so that you’re no longer responding as if you’re actively needing to run away from trauma, fight trauma, or shut the world out to avoid trauma.
We will focus on how you WANT to feel and make real changes to help your brain let go of the negative thoughts.
We will work with your brain and your body
using art, imagery, and a ton of resources
to create new positive neural networks that can shift how you view yourself and your relationships with others.
